International Mother Language Day (Matribhasha Divas) Celebration
 

International mother language day celebration was celebrated in Index Nursing College on 21st February 2020. UNESCO had announced on 21ST February in 1999 to celebrate “International Mother Language Day”. Since then, this day is celebrated as mother language day every year. According to a report by the census directorate, there are 100 non-notified languages in the country besides 22 scheduled languages which are spoken by one lakh or more people. Day to promote the dissemination of mother tongues and create fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world so as to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue. It has been decide to celebrate MATRIBHASHA DIWAS to promote the use of mother tongue.

The occasion was observed with following Objectives:

  • Highlight the linguistic diversity of our country.
  • Encourage usage not only of the respective mother tongue, but other Indian languages as well.
  • To understand and draw attention to the diversity of cultures, in India and the consequent forum of literature, craft, performing arts, scripts and other forms of creative expression.
  • To encourage the learning of languages, other than one’s own mother tongue

Mrs. Reena Thakur gave a speech on the importance of celebrating this day in the current scenario. Various activities including essay writing, poem recitation and speech competition were organized in B.Sc Nursing 3rd Year classroom. and the celebration was organized successfully.
