Children are the future of the nation and caring for them becomes responsibility of Index Medical College, Indore. The dedicated Pediatric team focuses on the care and health of children till 18 years of age. Their clinical expertise, outpatient and diagnostic facilities and in- patient facilities in a safe and caring environment instills confidence and promotes healing.

Paediatric Department provides a full range of tertiary pediatric care, health promotion and prevention programs for children and adolescents. The medical staff has responded to the changing needs of children requiring inpatient care by developing need based clinical services.

The objectives of the department are :-

To provide high quality treatment for complex and serious diseases affecting children in addition to common paediatric problems. The department comprises of 5 units & 5 paediatric wards with 160 beds fully equipped with oxygen, suction & other emergency services.

In addition to diagnosing and treating serious and complicated illnesses, encompassing the various subspecialities of paediatrics, it has expanded the area under preventive and rehabilitative services. The good support from the specialities of Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, ENT, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology and Oncology, Pedodontia ensures that the child who comes to the department gets the best. In addition there is 24 hour laboratory support (NABL certified), 100% voluntary blood transfusion services with facilities for component therapy.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The NICU unit is fully equipped with 3 Ventilators, 2 CPAP machines, Infusion pumps, Radiant Warmers, Multipara monitors, Central oxygen & suction, Phototherapy units & KMC.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has 15 beds. It is fully equipped with Ventilator, Defibrillator, Multipara monitors, Infusion pumps. All emergency protocols are followed and all emergencies are managed including poisoning.

Others
  • There is a dialysis unit fully equipped to carry out dialysis in children with trained staff.
  • There is Thalassemia ward, to carry out blood transfusion in Thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and aplastic anemia patients.
  • Immunisation clinic for immunization service
    • All vaccinations are being given
    • There is an ILR, vaccines, vaccine carrier, suction machine, oxygen cylinder, emergency tray and immunization schedule charts and register

Well baby clinic
  • To assess growth and development of the normal newborn as well as high risk newborn.
  • Growth and development charts are there to assess the growth and development and diagnose:
    • Short stature and delayed milestones, spasticity, CP, MR, autism at early stage.

Nutrition, anemia and diarrhea clinic
  • To diagnose, monitor and counsel cases of aplastic anemia, sickle cell anemia, Thalassemia and other hematological disorder
  • Hb electrophoresis, clotting assays, bone marrow aspiration are being done
  • In diarrhea clinic, patients’ parents are taught to make ORS and diet management
  • Diet charts are given and counseling of parents of malnutrition patients is done
  • SAM and MAM cases are identified and plan of action decided Dietician is there to guide for the diet

Asthma clinic

In this, new cases of asthma are diagnosed and registered and all asthma, hyperactive airway disease are counselled, investigated and treated and called for follow up.

  • Respiratory exercises are taught
  • PFT is done

Nephrology clinic

Patients of Nephrotic syndrome,nephritic,UTI and other renal disorders are diagnosed, investigated, treated and called for follow up.

  • They are counselled for steroid treatment
  • Their growth monitoring is also done
  • Renal biopsies and hemodialysis are planned according to need

Endocrinology clinic

Patients of short stature, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism are diagnosed after proper history and investigations.

  • Appropriate investigations, treatment and counselling is done and called for follow up.

Neurology clinic

Neurological problems are assessed by history taking, examination, EEG,CT/MRI/USG.

  • Also fundus,BERA is done when required
  • Patients of MR,CP are counselled and follow up is done regularly
  • Growth and development is monitored

Cardiology clinic

Patients of CHD and rheumatic heart disease are diagnosed an monitored regularly ECG, Echo,X- ray are done and referred timely for surgery.


Child Guidance clinic

In this, cases of autism, behavioral problems are seen and guidance and treatment is being given other services rendered:

  • Hemodialysis
  • Pediatric surgery
  • Health check up camps
  • School health checkup
  • Services given at rural and urban health centre
