On August 17, 2024, Index Nursing College, a unit of Malwanchal University, organized an educational visit to Candy Lake Chocolate Industry in Aathmil village, Indore. Under the guidance of Mr. Suresh Singh Bhadoria, Chairman of Index Group of Institutes, and Principal Dr. Smriti G. Solomon, the visit aimed to give students insights into chocolate manufacturing techniques, technology, quality control, and environmental sustainability in the industry. Led by faculty members Dr. Naveen K. Jaiswal, Dr. Prabhanshu Vyas, and Ms. Nainika Joseph from the Community Health Nursing Department, 24 B.Sc. Nursing second-year students participated in this enriching experience.
The visit objectives included observing each stage of the chocolate-making process—from cocoacacao pod harvesting to final packaging—while learning about raw materials, quality control, and the environmental impact of production. Mr. Shivendra, the industry manager, provided an in-depth tour, explaining how cacao beans are processed through fermentation, drying, grinding, conching, and tempering to achieve the finest quality chocolate.
Students witnessed the intricate techniques used to maintain quality and consistency, such as rigorous quality checks throughout production. This visit highlighted the craftsmanship involved and the technology employed, giving students a new appreciation for sustainable practices and identifying potential for future innovation. The experience fostered industry connections and offered valuable insights into chocolate manufacturing, enhancing the students' understanding of both operational practices and environmental considerations in this sector.
Index Nursing College, affiliated with Malwanchal University, celebrated the 78th Independence Day on August 16, 2024, at Index Medical College’s auditorium. The event, themed “Viksit Bharat,” reflected on India’s progress and envisioned a brighter future for 2047. Organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. Smriti G. Solomon, Prof. Dr. Th. Bidyani Devi, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nitin Chicholkar, the celebration aimed to instill a sense of pride and patriotism among students and faculty.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a warm welcome extended to Chief Guest Dr. G.S. Patel, Dean of Index Medical College Hospital and Research Center, along with faculty members and students. Anchored by Ms. Shalu Jatwa, a B.Sc. Nursing 2nd-year student, the program featured inspiring performances that highlighted the spirit of freedom.
Ms. Megha Verma opened with a solo performance dressed in the colors of the Tiranga, setting a patriotic tone. Following her, Ms. Bharti Solanki, Ms. Ishika Sarswal, and Ms. Rajeshwari Jaiswal from the B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year students performedyear performed a powerful patriotic dance, while Ms. Sakshi Suryavanshi and Ms. Megha Verma delivered an expressive duet. Ms. Ishika Sarswal concluded with a solo dance on the theme of "Desh Bhakti." The colorful performances stirred emotions of pride and patriotism among the audience.
The event concluded with an inspirational speech by Dr. G.S. Patel, who emphasized the importance of independence, devotion, and the significant role of youth in shaping the nation. A vote of thanks was given by Ms. Shalu Jatwa, and the celebration ended with the release of tricolor balloons, symbolizing peace and prosperity, followed by the national anthem. Over 220 participants joined in, making it a memorable and uplifting event.
On 16th August 2024, Index Nursing College, a constituent unit of Malwanchal University, hosted a Journal Club Presentation for its faculty at the college’s lecture hall. The session, held at 2:00 PM, aimed to foster continuous professional development by encouraging critical thinking, enhancing presentation and communication skills, and promoting knowledge sharing among the participants. The discussions focused on recent advancements in various nursing disciplines, including Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) Nursing.
The Journal Club’s objectives included:
- Critical Evaluation: Enhancing the ability to assess research articles, methodologies, findings, and implications.
- Knowledge Dissemination: Sharing recent advancements and trends to deepen participants’ understanding of key topics.
- Facilitate Discussion: Encouraging dialogue and exchange of ideas to gain diverse perspectives.
- Application of Research: Connecting research findings with practical applications in the healthcare setting.
- Encouraging Lifelong Learning: Inspiring participants to stay updated with the latest research in their respective fields.
- Networking: Providing a platform for collaboration and mentorship among faculty members.
Presentations during the session included:
- Dr. Smriti G. Solomon, Principal, Index Nursing College, presented an article titled “An investigation into the relationship between mental well-being and decision-making competency among young adults” from the *International Journal of Neurological Nursing*.
- Dr. Naveen Kumar Jaiswal, HOD of Community Health Nursing, presented on the article “Knowledge and practices regarding personal hygiene in school-going children” published in The Nursing Journal of India.
- Dr. Th. Bidyani Devi, Prof. of OBG Department, discussed the article “Assessment of barriers for implementing nurse-led birth clinics among nursing staff” from the *International Journal of Obstetrics, Perinatal, and Neonatal Nursing*.
The session concluded with engaging discussions, providing valuable insights and encouraging collaborative learning among the 40 faculty members who attended. The Journal Club Presentation successfully met its goal of enhancing critical thinking, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within the institution.
